Puff Stitch Hat - ID#1945

Adult size Med to Large

Approximately 1 hour to completion, this pattern might be loosely interpreted, so if you are a beginner, you can see how it is coming out and you might just "wing it" and it will be just fine.

4-ply yarn, worsted weight color A, about 100 yds (I used Bernat Caress acrylic, white)
Bulky weight or Fuzzy texture yarn like Chenille yarn, color B, about 15 yds (I used Chenille, denim blue)
Crochet hook size "J"
Crochet hook size "K"
Yarn needle

Stitch Pattern:
SPS = Small Puff Stitch.
(yo, pull up a loop) twice (5 loops on hook) yo, pull through all loops.
LPS = Large Puff Stitch.
(yo, pull up a loop) three times (7 loops on hook) yo, pull through all loops.

This pattern is worked on the front side only, do not turn at the end of any row.

(26 LPS)

9 - Repeat row 5
10 - Repeat row 7
11 - Repeat row 5
12 - Repeat row 7
13 - Repeat row 7, ending with ch 3.

14 - Change to J hook , 1 hdc in back loops of each around, sl st to the first, changing colors to B, chg 1. (Approx 42 sts around)
15 - 1sc in back loops of each around, sl to the first, ch1.
16 - Repeat row 15, break yarn.

Note: I have also used Eyelash yarn for this edge. In that case you may not be able to see the stitches, so just place them wherever you can, just be sure to use the same number of stitches or slightly more.
You may also add a row or 2 more to make an edge that turns up, also increasing the number of stitches around on subsequent rows..

Ball for top.
With color B and J hook, ch2.
1 - 7 dc in the first chain, sl to the first, ch2.
2 - 1dc in each around, sl to the first, ch2.
3 - Repeat 2
Break yarn leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew opening, drawing in to form a ball (stuff with excess yarn if necessary). Tie the ball to the top of the hat using tails of beginning chains.

Tie off and weave in all loose ends.
